CAYCUMA SCIENCE CENTER
Shortlisted Competition Project | Istanbul, TURKEY
The site’s contextual surroundings include schools to the east, nursing homes to the north, and dormitory facilities to the west. This diverse user profile injects intriguing dynamics into the building’s design. A central, street-like pathway serves as both a unifying element and a division, effectively bisecting the site. Symbolizing the journey of knowledge pursuit, this pathway spans across generations, from early childhood to lifelong learning. Functions along this pathway are strategically positioned to maintain continuous visual connectivity.
On the east side of the building, spaces are allocated for management and educational units, while the western wing accommodates exhibition spaces. Importantly, the pathway cutting through the building remains accessible to the public at all times, fostering inclusivity. At lower levels, the educational and exhibition areas seamlessly integrate with workshops, multipurpose units, and a science center. This thoughtful design approach creates a dynamic and engaging environment that supports various educational and communal activities.
